Details about Position, Requirements and Duties:

Two postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Paul Burridge in the Department of Pharmacology and the Center for Pharmacogenomics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL.

Successful candidates will participate in NIH- and AHA-funded projects to study the application of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSC) in predictive medicine. Our goal is to develop the next generation of tools for predicting drug responses and validating SNPs to allow the use of genomic information in precision medicine. With these data we will probe the mechanisms of action of a range of drugs to provide individualized treatment selections and regimes to improve drug efficacy and eliminate off-target toxicity.
University is looking for highly motivated and creative candidates with an interest in studying SNPs and molecular mechanisms involved in chemotherapy-induced cardiotoxicity using patient-specific hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes and a wide range of state-of-the-art techniques such as genome editing, high-content imaging, high-throughput drug screening, electrophysiology, GWAS, whole genome sequencing, and RNA-seq. The Burridge Laboratory is stably supported by NIH and institutional funding.

Required Qualifications: 
PhD or MD/PhD degree within the last two years and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Desirable expertise includes: mechanisms of chemotherapy agents and toxicity, disease modeling, pharmacogenomics, GWAS, TALEN/CRISPR genome editing, bioinformatics, high-throughput biology and drug screening, electrophysiology, hiPSC derivation, culture, and differentiation (cardiac/skeletal muscle/endothelial/blood/hepatocyte/lung/renal/neural), engraftment, and developmental/cardiovascular biology. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are essential. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research environment in the Department of Pharmacology, which offers both basic science and clinical translational opportunities to explore fundamental questions in pharmacogenomics.

Salary will be according to NIH (NRSA) Scale and commensurate with experience.

Applications are invited for Career Development Fellowships to work within the Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR) at the University of Cambridge.

CEDAR aims to understand the population-level determinants of dietary and physical activity behaviour, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and estimate the long-term costs and benefits of behaviour change. It is hosted by the MRC Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge and works in partnership with the University of East Anglia and other MRC Units in Cambridge. CEDAR is one of five UKCRC-funded centres of excellence in public health research that are helping to shape public health policy and practice.

CEDAR invites applications for Career Development Fellowships which provide post-doctoral scientists with a fixed term training position to develop their research and transferable skills. In discussion with CEDAR Investigators, successful applicants will have the opportunity to develop and lead their own research plans within the overall scope of the centre. Approaches may be based on one or more of a wide range of disciplines and methods including diet and activity research, epidemiology, biostatistics, health geography, behavioural science, intervention development and evaluation, and public health modelling. These are prestigious appointments and the positions are intended to provide a pathway for successful candidates to obtain independent personal research fellowships in the future.

This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to an inter-disciplinary centre that is successfully delivering primary and secondary research of scientific and policy relevance, developing future public health research leaders and driving the process of translating research evidence into preventive action.

You will have a strong background or interest in public health research and will have completed doctoral studies in a relevant discipline or have skills that could be applied to public health research. Zebrafish model of muscle development and diseases

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Peng Huang in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Calgary, Canada. We use zebrafish models to understand human muscle diseases such as muscular dystrophy. Using a combination of reverse genetic tools, transgenesis, in vivo imaging, and small molecule screens, we study how muscle integrity is maintained. In particular, we investigate how cell signaling pathways and cell-cell interactions regulate muscle maintenance. Requirement:

Research Area: Research Associate in Nano-particles synthesis using Advanced Flow Technology,

Duties and Responsibilities:

The aim of the project is to develop a manufacturing methodology for the synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) for use in healthcare. The proposal assembles a multidisciplinary team at the Chemistry/Chemical Engineering interface with complementary skills to address the manufacturing challenges of making high quality NPs with tunable size, morphology and surface functionalization. This project is supported by the EPSRC and is in collaboration with the UCL departments of Chemical Engineering, IBME, and an industrial consortium.

Key Requirements:
The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant subject area in either Chemistry, Inorganic Materials, Material Sciences or in Chemical/Process engineering; have published work in high quality international journals, and have knowledge and proven research skills of inorganic synthesis techniques, especially the inorganic nanoparticle synthesis, especially the formation of Fe, Co, FeCo nanoparticles coated with Au and silica.
Additionally, the postholder will be expected to contribute to the design and implementation of the research strategy, and provide full records, analyses and internal reports of all research outcomes.

UCL has recently been successful in two large awards with rapid MR imaging components. One award provides £10 million to develop better tools and imaging techniques that will improve the success of surgery and other therapies on unborn babies in collaboration with KU Leuven, Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London Hospital. The other award, £5.3million from the Medical Research Council, will fund the installation of a clinical SPINlab MRI Hyperpolarizer for imaging of metabolic activity.

UCL is seeking a post-doctoral research associate (PDRA) to facilitate these studies, implement and develop rapid imaging methods. For the fetal imaging, the aim is to provide clinical MR images that will support diagnosis and aid subsequent interventions. The MR images are intended to provide anatomical and functional information of the maternal and fetal anatomy, and localization of the placenta in relation to maternal landmarks. These will assist with safe, optimal port placement to maximize access and the working volume of imaging probes and instruments during subsequent invasive therapeutic procedures.

For the Hyperpolarizer project, the limited lifetime of the hyperpolarized compounds necessitates rapid imaging. The emphasis at UCL will be on the applications of these methods to revolutionize diagnosis, risk stratification and therapy for people with cancer, initially aiming to benefit prostate cancer patients.

The funding provides an exciting opportunity for a PDRA at the interface between rapid imaging techniques, novel applications and clinical patient imaging. In collaboration with existing staff, the PDRA will be expected to implement techniques from the literature or collaborating sites and have a good understanding of MR sequences in practical applications.


The successful candidate will have a strong background in MR Physics and a PhD or equivalent research experience in MRI physics, biomedical engineering, or a comparable subject, strong expertise in programming or using high-level languages or packages (e.g. C/C++, Matlab, OsiriX) and awareness of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ethics issues.
